New Directions College are looking to appoint a Tutor to work with Adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Due to recent growth at the College, we are seeking an outstanding Tutor to deliver a range of learning pathways to adult learners with special educational needs and disabilities from pre-entry level through to Level 2. This includes both regulated and non-regulated learning.

New Directions College is Reading Borough Council’s Adult Community Learning and Skills service.  This year we’re celebrating 64 years of Adult Learning in Reading. We’re a small friendly College delivering to over 2000 learners and Apprentices in Reading each year, directly and through our subcontractors and partners.

In the summer of 2022, we will be launching a new suite of courses designed to support adult learners into employment within the hospitality sector and will be working with our partners Ways into Work to offer supported employment opportunities.

We are looking for someone with a background in the hospitality industry and with experience of teaching or working with adults with SEND. You would preferably have experience of delivering within an adult and community learning environment.

You should also have relevant occupational competence and professional teaching and/or assessing qualifications that enable you to support adult learners to develop their skills, confidence and knowledge and make progress.

You should be passionate about supporting others, have strong communication skills and should have experience of delivering accredited qualifications as well as recording and recognising progress and achievement using standardised tools.

You will be responsible for working with learners to conduct initial assessments, develop their individual learning plan and to set them meaningful targets. You will also lead on delivery of bespoke courses and should expect to design appropriate learning resources.
