Digital Skills

At New Directions College we offer a complete range of Digital Skills training. Starting with everyday and essential digital skills through to ICT systems support.

IT Café for Beginners

This course is aimed at individuals with no or very little prior experience with computers. The purpose of this course is to help learners improve their daily life, which is increasingly dependent on technology. Topics covered will include basic computer skills, such as using a mouse and keyboard, navigating the internet, and using email. Learners will also learn how to use common productivity software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel. All sessions will take place at New Directions College South.

IT Cafe’

Starting:

  • From Monday 30th October 2023 to 12th November 2023 at 10:00 – 12:00 
  • From Monday 19th February 2024 to 25th March 2024 at 10:00 – 12:00
  • From Monday 13th May 2024 to 1st July 2024 at 10:00 – 12:00

Introduction to IT

Although technology is all around, many people struggle to use it effectively. Gaining digital skills can reduce isolation, increase career prospects and enable people to access relevant information. This pre-entry level course is flexible and tailor made to individual learners who may be complete beginners or just keen to learn more. The course will give insights into accessing devices, searching for information online, being safe online, communicating online and possibly a taster to Office applications.  Delivered at New Directions College South, Southcote Community Hub and Reading Community Learning Centre.

Essential Digital Skills Entry 3

The National Digital Standard published by the Department for Education, aims to support adults in five key areas – Communicating, Handling information and content, Transacting, Problem Solving and Being safe online. This entry level accredited course will cover all of these areas and will help the learner gain necessary skills to improve their career prospects. The course is FREE under the digital entitlement. Courses are approximately 6 to 8 weeks in duration, depending on venue and start date. Delivered at New Directions College South, Reading Community Learning Centre and Southcote Community Hub.

This course provides a thorough grounding in ICT for those who already have some knowledge. It covers Communicating, Creating and Editing Documents and Images, Transacting, Complete and Submit online forms, Comply with Verifications, Buy Securely Online, Being Safe and responsible online, Using the Internet Safely, Legally and responsibly, Using devices and Handling Information.

Delivered at New Directions College South and Southcote Community Hub.
