This October half-term, join us in celebrating the joy of learning together as a family!
What is the Family Learning Festival?
The Family Learning Festival is a national celebration which marks and
inspires a love of learning in family life. It takes place in October every year and this year the theme is Story Power.
Why Story Power?
Learning as a family helps children and adults to become confident, lifelong learners. It helps children develop essential skills and achieve at school. It helps grown-ups to reconnect to learning and transform their lives. Family learning can help families overcome barriers and improve their life chances.
It celebrates the power of stories to help us make sense of our experiences, to grow our understanding of others and their experiences, and to learn, problem-solve and imagine new ways of doing things.
Prepare for creating memories, and taking part in a variety of enjoyable activities at New Directions College.

What our Family Learning parents have said so far:
“I found the Course Tutor’s advice in visiting everyday activities and situations to bring in maths – e.g. shapes, counting, counting fruit, temperatures and jumps to one area to another – very helpful” – Parent at Thameside School, Reading
“Especially useful is the Course Tutor’s suggestion of buying coloured building blocks, as they are fantastic for counting at visual and tactical level“. Parent at Thameside School, Reading
“Sam is more readily engaged to work on simple maths problems now. I’ll continue to use the Course Tutor’s lessons to make a timetable for him, and I can work on it over the holidays.” Parent at Thameside School, Reading
“I felt initially overwhelmed by the length of the lessons, but got used to one and a half hour. I would like to continue some tuition into Year 3“. Parent at Thameside School, Reading
“I’ve found the class learning and online information given to me by the Course Tutor a useful tool to be used in the near future. I am grateful for the opportunity to be included in these sessions, thank you“. Parent at Colington School, Twyford
