In celebration of Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary, this year’s Big Artwork event is inspired by the art of the Regency period! Join us as we explore the elegance and creativity of Austen’s time and reinterpret it with a contemporary twist. You and your family will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of artistic activities, celebrating Austen’s legacy in a fun and imaginative way. Whether you’re a Jane Austen enthusiast or simply love to create, this event offers something for everyone. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The Family Learning Festival
The Family Learning Festival is a national celebration which marks and
inspires a love of learning in family life. It takes place in October every year and this year the theme is Story Power.
Learning as a family helps children and adults to become confident, lifelong learners. It helps children develop essential skills and achieve at school. It helps grown-ups to reconnect to learning and transform their lives. Family learning can help families overcome barriers and improve their life chances.
It celebrates the power of stories to help us make sense of our experiences, to grow our understanding of others and their experiences, and to learn, problem-solve and imagine new ways of doing things.

Create the World of Jane Austen
Celebrate Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary with a truly special immersive festive experience at New Directions College! In this one-day workshop, you’ll make a traditional plum pudding and craft a ceramic platter to serve it on, the perfect combination of historical cooking and ceramics.
Come with friends, meet fellow Austen fans, or simply join for the love of cooking and pottery. For those who’d like to fully embrace the spirit of the day, period dress is warmly welcomed! Platters will be fired and ready for collection at a later date — just in time to serve your festive plum pudding.
