Ceramics for all (evening) Course

About this Course

This course provides an opportunity to explore the creative and therapeutic potential of clay. Learners will develop the fundamental skills of working with clay, including slab and coil construction, pinching, throwing and glazing. Through a series of tutor led projects, demonstrations, discussions and hands-on activities, learners will gain an understanding of how to create both functional and sculptural forms.

They will also explore various techniques for surface decoration and explore the history of ceramic art. By the end of the course, learners will have a better understanding of the materials and techniques used in ceramics and will have the confidence to pursue further independent projects if they wish.

This course is aimed at all levels, with learners working at their own speed, it will be fun and relaxed providing learners with the opportunity to explore their creativity in a supportive and stimulating environment.

Topics covered: Hand- building, including slabbing, coiling, pinching. Throwing, Centering, various decorative techniques, slips and glazes.

All materials are provided. Please bring a sketchbook or notebook for idea development and taking notes.
