About Craftastic Arts and Craft Club August 2022

By attending the Craftastic Arts and Craft Club at New Directions College, children and young people aged 11 to 16 years old, will have the opportunity to work with practicing artists and specialist practitioners to explore enriching arts, crafts and cooking activities.  These workshops aim to build confidence in creativity and develop each child’s unique style.  Activities will include:

Ceramics

Over the four weeks, children and young adults will be introduced to the joys of working with clay in our dedicated ceramic studio. They will be guided through fun projects by specialist ceramics tutors, learning various techniques including pinching, coiling, slabbing, throwing and sculpting. Once they have made the ceramic item, they will be taught how to decorate it using slips and glazes, before it’s fired and ready to take home.

Printmaking

Working alongside the tutor, children will learn to create striking images through the medium of printmaking. They will explore how to make a series of prints, through techniques such as mono-printing, linocut, kitchen lithography and collagraphy. Some of these processes can then be used to print onto T-shirts and Tote-bags.

Arts and Crafts

The arts and crafts sessions will give children the opportunity to experiment with a range of different art materials and explore new and exciting ways of creating art. Children will be taught to express themselves through various techniques in drawing, painting and collage. They will learn about contemporary artists and how to find inspiration in the world around them.

Cookery

In our state-of-the-art kitchen, children and families will be taught how to prepare healthy snacks and cook nutritious meals, packed full of fresh ingredients. They will also learn how to bake delicious treats to take home to share with family and friends.

Sewing and Textiles

Children of all ages will learn the essential sills of hand sewing through quirky projects, such as sock monkeys, funny face cushions and various accessories. They will experiment with different stiches and techniques of embroidery and applique. Older children will also have the opportunity to learn sewing machine skills through upcycling fashion projects.
