Celebrating Community at Our First Inclusion Fête!

New Directions College is home to learners from all over the world, each with their own stories, experiences and traditions.

We wanted to create an event where everyone felt welcome, where cultures could be shared, friendships could be made, and our local community could simply enjoy spending time together.

The event was also an opportunity to support and celebrate learners who face additional challenges in their daily lives, whether related to disability, learning difficulties or mental health. Seeing everyone come together, have fun and connect with one another made the day truly special.

We were delighted to welcome a fantastic range of community partners, including Whitley Café and Social Club, Reading Museum on Wheels, Whitley Museum, Compass Recovery College, Smoke Free Life Berkshire, Better UK, Community Health Champions and Rank & File Theatre

Their activities, information and enthusiasm helped make the event a real success, and we are incredibly grateful for their support.

A huge thank you also goes to our volunteers, staff and learners who helped decorate the site, set up stalls and generously donated prizes for the day. From chocolates and toiletries to plants, teddies and gift items, the community really got behind the event.

The Tombola proved to be the star attraction and raised the most money on the day, while games such as Guess the Flag and Hook-a-Duck kept everyone entertained throughout the afternoon.

Together, we raised an amazing £281. The money will be reinvested into activities that benefit our learners, whether that’s supporting next year’s Inclusion Fête or funding resources and enrichment opportunities that make a positive difference to college life.

And finally, we couldn’t end without mentioning our very special guest…

“Thank you for having me! I had a wonderful time meeting everyone I hope to visit the College again soon!”

We certainly hope so too!

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported and helped make our first Inclusion Fête such a memorable day.
