New Directions College is Reading Borough Council's Community Learning and Skills service.  This year we're celebrating 60 years of Adult Learning in Reading.

We're a small friendly team with an ambitious plan for the future.  At New Directions we pride ourselves on not turning people away, and helping individuals progress on their journey whatever their personal goals. Ofsted judged the service as 'Good' in 2011 and 2015. 

Following the implementation of a re-structure we are currently overhauling all our business support processes to improve quality of service and efficiency e.g. paperless enrolment. This role will provide leadership to ensure successful implementation and continued development/utilisation of our database, systems and processes.

The post holder(s) will:

  1. Be a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  2. Oversee all aspects of funding and finance and contribute to financial planning and monitoring.
  3. Manage the externalised Management Information System (MIS) function and contract.
  4. Lead on day to day operations including business continuity.
  5. Lead all business support functions including compliance.
  6. Undertake the role of Designated Safeguarding Officer for the service.
  7. Lead on all Health & Safety matters including Prevent.

You will have a management or finance qualification or have demonstrable experience with a proven track record, with excellent organisational and communication skills, ideally with experience of working within the post compulsory education sector.

We are looking for creative, passionate and inspiring people to deliver our adult learning courses from September 2018.

We have opportunities in a number of subjects including:

Languages: French, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese

Arts & Crafts: Basket weaving, Calligraphy,  Ceramics, Creative Collage, Drawing and Painting, Flower Arranging, Glass & Framing, Jewellery Making, Mosaic, Paper Crafts

Textiles and Dressmaking: Machine Embroidery, Knitting, Crochet, Weaving, Textiles Printing, Soft Furnishing, Patchwork, Felting, Macramé, Batik, Personal styling

Baking & Cookery: Baking, Cake Decorating, Cooking International Cuisines, Wine and beer tasting

Culture & Games:  Chess, Bridge, Archaeology

Classes are organised at different venues across Reading in the daytime and evening.  Ideally you will be a qualified adult learning tutor and be suitably experienced and qualified in your subject/discipline.

LEARNER SUPPORT WORKERS
£9.80 per hour

These posts are to support individual learners with additional needs to achieve their potential across the curriculum. Applicants will have a minimum of GCSE level English and Maths and, ideally, experience of working with adults who have learning difficulties. Learner support workers are casual staff members who would need to be available to work evenings as well as daytime.
