Dressmaking for All

This dressmaking course for mixed abilities offers the ideal way to learn the craft of dressmaking. Expert guidance from the tutor will help learners of all levels develop skills and build their knowledge about dressmaking. Although some experience would be beneficial, it is not essential as the tutor will be on hand to answer all questions. Learners are encouraged to bring along their own work to work on in a supportive atmosphere, and if desired, the tutor can also set inspiring and challenging projects.

This course teaches you the basics of dressmaking as well as how to develop your skills and push boundaries. Learn while you create your own projects surrounded by likeminded people.

Topics covered: Understanding a sewing machine; learning to sew seams, hems, zips, pockets and buttonholes and finish garments professionally.

Skills to be gained: Using a sewing machine; How to sew seams, hems, zips, pockets and buttonholes; Learn how to finish garments professionally; Pattern cutting.

You will need to bring:

Fabric (outer, lining, interlining/ interfacing, etc)

Sewing thread

Buttons, fasteners and trims.

Sewing pattern(s) in an appropriate size.

*These items won’t be needed in the first session, so learners can wait until the course starts to select these things if they would rather wait for some guidance.

The sewing room has everything else you will need, but you may wish to bring your own basic sewing kit (scissors, hand sewing needles, unpicker, etc)
